Evolution

Hey guys,

This Scriptorium Sunday, I wanted to talk about Evolution and Creationism. Evolution is the theory that states that humans have evolved over millions and millions of years from monkeys to become what we are today. Creationism is the statement that God created all of creation (usually within 7 days, at least from what I was told and grew up with) and to explain supernatural events. I'm going to be using the 7 day definition of creationism (the ones most people believe), at least for now.

I think that evolution is real and that we have evolved from monkeys. I think that God saw monkeys and used them to create humans, even though it's not mentioned in the Bible. But Creationism, at least in the 7 day workmanship, is not my worldview. My worldview looks at an Earth that was created over "a period of time" - as stated in the original manuscripts (or what I've been told, I do need to learn how to read ancient Hebrew to confirm, Greek might be good as well) and I do believe that this is a more likely case because I don't think that God would make a world and not let there be a scientific explanation for it. That doesn't sound like a logical and just God to me because if we can't explain the universe then what good are humans to have. I think that God made animals and then said "I want someone to watch over the animals," so out of the animals he changed some of them.

Another theory doesn't explain how we came from monkeys, but it does explain dinosaurs and some other "things that are wrong" about the Creation story and that would be that the flood caused most of the changes in the animal landscape and that some of the animals were missed. I'm not entirely sure what a flood of that scale would have caused to happen to the world, but I do know that it would've helped Pangea to separate and it would have killed a lot of animals and maybe it could've caused an animal's skeleton to age to look like it was millions of years old when it was only thousands. I don't believe this, but it could be true. There's a lot to think about, but if Day 6 was really over a period of time, then maybe there was time between the animals and Adam and the animals evolved to make Adam because of God. I think that sounds more like God than just saying "bippity boppity boo, there is now humans too!" I mean He made an explanation and I don't think that he would've just left us to believe and leave it at that. God is logical and just and I think that He gave us a way of finding answers and that's just awesome to me.
