Integrity

Finished 11/17/2021

Integrity was a book that described the 6 factors of being a good leader. You have to have empathy (be able to connect with others), be able to see reality for what it is and not what you want it to be, be able to embrace the losses as well as the gains and be a problem solver that can embrace negativity and work around it, want to grow and are constantly learning so that they can grow, and are willing to admit when something is bigger than themselves.

Empathy - Being able to connect with others and build trust, basically being able to open yourself up to being helped and seeing things from the other person’s point of view

Able to see Reality for what it is - Not looking at what you wish it was, but seeing reality for what it truly is and being able to go from there, not from where you wish you could go from.

Be able to see what you’re good at and what you’re not and willing to admit that (finish well) - Basically you’re willing to admit that you need help and can assign someone else to do a job that they are better attuned to.

Be able to love the losses as well as the gains (Embrace Negativity) - not just being happy in the gains, but in the losses as well and seeing it as an opportunity to grow, not as a hindrance. Want to solve problems, not have to solve problems.

Focused towards increase (Growing) - Want to help other people grow, as well as themselves and they want to keep learning and keep trying to be better, they never stop learning and never stop changing to better themselves.

Giving yourselves to a greater cause (Understanding of the Transcendent) - They don’t see themselves as the “big picture,” but are willing to give themselves to a bigger picture than themselves, also willing to not accommodate for their values because they want a profit (Example was J&J Tylenol who said that they didn’t want one person to die so they took their leading profit off the market for a time until it was safe).

Main areas to focus on that were discussed in this book - I think that I need to focus on being more empathetic and being able to connect with people, along with that I think that I need to embrace negativity and not run away from it or get angry at it, just accept that this is what it is and try to solve a problem for the problem before me, not try to say that this isn’t actually a problem or ignore the problem.
