Today I wanted to talk about a question I read "is religion good or bad today?"
I wish this was clear and simple, but it's not. I think that religion helps people and that it is ultimately meant to be a force for good, but I think that some people think they're doing the right thing "for God," but they're just glorifying murder for a "worthy cause." You know who else did that? Hitler. Hitler thought he was doing the right thing and he sort of was - for Germany. But he couldn't see past his selfish desires and, while I do admit that the Treaty of Versailles is unfair, that is no excuse for the genocide of certain groups of people (namely Jews and homosexuals come to mind first, though there were others). But sometimes we can't see that we're the villain, but I digress.
I think that religion is good, but it can be used to justify bad and while that's overall objective, with religion it's a little more cut and dry and I think that's why it's overall good. Because, while there is an ingrained morality, I think that religion brings it together and gives people hope to continue on and that this life isn't the only thing to look forward to and I think that's something worth celebrating.
