Row the Boat

Row the Boat by Jon Gordon based on the life of P.J. Fleck

Row the Boat was a story about never giving up, about how you just keep rowing and never giving up. It talked about the life of P.J. Fleck, a football coach who coached college football and was the smallest kid on his football team, but was picked up because he never gave up and kept going and trying to be the best. It reminds me a lot of the movie “Greater” where a walk-on inspires his team to become better and becomes better himself and keeps going, but dies tragically before he can continue on to the NFL.

Anyways, P.J. Fleck had that kind of attitude and he continued to push for excellence in his players in all that they do. He took “give it your all in everything you do” to the next level and kept pushing for the best. He got to the NFL because he did 140 on the pacer test (if you’ve ever done the pacer test, that is HARD), but he wanted to show the coaches that had heart and that he was ready. That is admirable and that is the kind of spirit I want, to keep going even when the odds are against me, even when I’m exhausted and can barely move. I want to be able to do that. The book also emphasizes how you have to find people who want to improve and keep moving forward and how building things takes time and that you have to give yourself that time in order to make anything lasting. This is what I want my blog to be, this is the kind of culture I want to cultivate and make. Please help me make that happen.
