Thoughts For This Week

I want to recreate this format. The format right now is copied from James Clear. But I think it's time to branch off, make my own.

3 Quotes From This Week:

“I hope that in this year to come, you make mistakes.

Because if you are making mistakes, then you are making new things, trying new things, learning, living, pushing yourself, changing yourself, changing your world. You're doing things you've never done before, and more importantly, you're Doing Something.

So that's my wish for you, and all of us, and my wish for myself. Make New Mistakes. Make glorious, amazing mistakes. Make mistakes nobody's ever made before. Don't freeze, don't stop, don't worry that it isn't good enough, or it isn't perfect, whatever it is: art, or love, or work or family or life.

Whatever it is you're scared of doing, Do it.

Make your mistakes, next year and forever.”

Neil Gaiman

I've always been scared of making mistakes. Especially mistakes that hurt people close to me. Recently, I've been terrified of being alone. That's something I never thought I'd write. I used to love being alone, but now it just reminds me that I should be working. That's the second thing that scares me: that all this work, all this time and energy I'm putting into making a future is going to be for nothing because its consumed me.

“Instead of worrying about what you cannot control, shift your energy to what you can create.”

Roy T. Bennett, The Light In Your Heart

Something like this quote has been sticking with me lately. I have a post about control coming soon, but controlling what you can and letting go of what you can't control has been a big sticking point for me recently. I can't control other people's perceptions of me, but I can control how I perceive the world. I can't control how other people act, but I can control how I act. I haven't been doing the best job of acting right and being the best version of me. I've been pushing too hard, but why wouldn't you put everything you have into your dreams? What can I create today? That is the question.

"If today was your last day and tomorrow was too late, could you say goodbye to yesterday?

- Nickelback

Recently, this song was sent to me by a friend and I've been writing letters to people that I've held onto for too long. Whether it was because they hurt me or someone close to me, I was holding onto them and couldn't forgive them, couldn't let them go. I wrote them letters because I want to leave the past in the past. The past shouldn't hold you back from your future, but more importantly it shouldn't be imposing on your present. I was watching Suits recently and a quote stuck out to me. It said "This is what addicts do. The second they start making progress, they screw up because deep down they think it's only a matter of time before they fail. They'd rather fall from the third floor than the penthouse." - Harvey Specter (Suits).

2 Quotes For the Question:

“You are one habit away from getting into shape. You are one habit away from financial freedom. You are one habit away from mental health. You are one habit away from a happy, healthy marriage. You are one habit away from any goal you set. The only catch? It has to be a daily habit!”

-Mark Batterson

“Do not prove yourself, but improve yourself, for the prove will come in its own time as you keep improving. Keep improving and it will prove.”

Ned Bryan Abakah

1 Question for the Week:

What can you focus on for this week that will improve who you are, not just what you do?
