So I’ve sort of touched on this subject in poems and in other forms but I’m fairly certain I never outright said how I view love. I used to think of love as a feeling, as something that you feel for another person and I think that’s part of it, but I don’t think that’s the whole story. I think that love, overall, is a choice. You can get caught up in the feelings part of it and that does play a part, but overall you can choose to walk away and that choice usually leads to you not loving that person - you might still love the memory of them, you might still love how they made you feel, but you don’t love them anymore. You love the concept of them, but you don’t love who they are at that moment because you don’t know who they are at that moment. That’s why the line “I don’t know you anymore” is so powerful because you fell in love with this idea of them and then you find something that goes completely against that and you lose the “mysticalness“ (for lack of a better term). Love is a choice because you can look at someone and hate what you loved about them but you can still choose to find that love again. People do change and I know that it’s hard to know who’s going to keep choosing you, but I believe that you can find someone that will choose to love you again and I hope you do find someone like that. Life is all about choices and I think that once we frame something as “not being our choice,” we lose a lot of what we can choose. I just think about how I choose to be afraid and then I start to choose bravery, I choose being able to look at myself in the mirror and not regret my life. Love is a choice, it’s something you can feel but it’s not a feeling. Choose the person that will keep choosing you because love fades at times. Love is such a difficult concept to put into words but I hope that you continue to keep your heart open to love and that you find someone that will always find their way back to you. good - Alex Risdall :)
